The best diving spots in Bali
The magical “Island of the Gods”, washed by the Pacific and Indian oceans, is rightfully considered one of the most interesting diving spots in the world. Find out about the best diving spots in Bali
Kingdom of Coral Dwellers (Blue Lagoon)
In the area of the coastal town of Padang Bai, near the Blue Lagoon beach, a sandy slope gradually goes into the sea to a depth of 25 m, overgrown with colorful corals. Immerse yourself in it and get more impressions than in any water park! Near the coral thickets and on the sandy bottom you can see crocodile fish, needle fish, lionfish, scorpionfish, mantis shrimp, and leaf fish. Even during daylight hours, predatory, goggle-eyed moray eels swim lazily among the soft corals. Here it is easy to meet a swimming sea turtle or cuttlefish with an indescribable expression on its face; octopuses are hiding in the holes. And on the corals themselves, a whole “branch” suddenly comes to life: it’s a frog fish, a specialist in camouflage! The color of her skin completely imitates the surface where she sits.
Dead Ship (Tulamben - Liberty Wreck)
Tulamben, a fishing village on the northeast coast of the island, has become a popular diving destination in Bali due to its underwater attraction. This is the American cargo ship Liberty, which sank after being hit by a Japanese torpedo on January 14, 1942.
The dive to visit the ship begins right from the shore. "Liberty" is located 40-50 m from it. The lost ship lies on a sandy slope. To look at it, you need to dive to 7.6-30.5 m. You will find underwater a genuine fragment of the history of the Second World War, a sad monument to it - with preserved boilers, cannons, an anchor chain, overgrown with shells and corals. The dive is accessible even to beginners - there is a soft current, everything in the area of the ship is clearly visible at 20 m.
Meeting with the sea devil (Manta Point)
Diving in Bali “doesn’t count” unless you’ve visited Manta Point near the rocky islet of Nusa Penida. The island itself is a gift for lovers of beautiful photo shoots, but under the water you will meet an amazing inhabitant of the ocean. This is a manta ray, also known as a giant sea devil. Despite the scary name, this is a completely harmless creature, most like a majestic floating blanket! True, 7-9 m wide...
Manta rays “soaring” in the clear water are an unforgettable sight. These stingrays, according to scientists, are almost as intelligent as dolphins. They swim in circles or in a chain, somersault, swallowing plankton, and sometimes “fly”, jumping high out of the water and flapping their huge wing fins. They are worth seeing!
